For 30 years, Adam Collings combed through private archives, museums and missions. All that research wound up in a 700-page California history book written in the style of an epic poem. "It's history, not fiction," Collings said. "I laid it out as if it were an epic poem. It is its own thing... There are some fans and detractors. " He presents his work at the Garden Grove Historical Society tonight at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The author from San Clemente said that he became intrigued with California's history when he read about its conquest while living in Santiago, Chile.
